Organic Carob Syrup of Creta Carob is produced from the fruits of the Cretan carob tree. It contains natural sugars and is used as a substitute for sugar or as a substitute for cocoa. Carob syrup has a mild, sweet taste with an aroma reminiscent of cocoa. It can be used as a sweetener in recipes for cookies, bisquits, cakes, ice cream, yogurt, energy bars, brownies, pancakes, but also in beverages (coffee, milk, milkshake).
Carob is rich in fiber and has a strong calcium content (almost three times that of milk). Calcium is important for bone health as well as for the proper functioning of the heart, nerves and muscles. Two tablespoons of carob syrup contain 42 mg of calcium or 4% of the indicative daily intake. Carob powder contains almost zero fat. Carob syrup is a good choice if you are on a low fat diet. Keep in mind that it has a higher sugar and carbohydrate content than cocoa powder. Carob does not contain sodium and is an excellent choice for people on a low sodium diet. Carob fiber is also a rich source of antioxidants and flavonoids that have been shown to reduce oxidative stress.
