Pine nuts are the edible seeds of the pine trees. It has been consumed since the Paleolithic era, as it is a nut with a high nutritional value. It consists of 13% carbohydrates, 14% protein and 68% fat and contains phosphorus, magnesium, zinc, vitamins E and K, niacin and thiamine.
Pine nuts are used in cooking in both Asia and Europe. It is one of the main ingredients to make pesto sauce (pine nuts, basil, parmesan cheese). You can add them to various creamy pasta sauces. They can also be added to green salads. Pine nuts can be eaten raw or roasted. You can add them to risotto or quinoa to add a crunchy texture in every bite, even in hummus to enrich its taste.
